Here’s a chance for your family to meet Mark Twain!!
Mark Twain will be on hand this Sunday at the New Rochelle Public Library to help guests experience 1840’s St. Petersburg, Missouri, where The Adventures of Tom Sawyer took place. The classic novel is the title of New Rochelle’s 2015 Big Read, which will be officially launched at Sunday’s event.
Throughout the afternoon, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, children will have an opportunity to play a great array of 19th century games, including jacks, marbles, pick-up-sticks, sack races, and others, and create a miniature raft and picket fence. Mark Twain impersonator, Alan Kitty, will stroll the library to meet guests.
Older children, teens and adults will enjoy the following presentations in the Ossie Davis Theater: 3:00 – 4:30 pm:
- A riveting keynote address by Cindy Lovell, Twain historian and Executive Director of the Mark Twain Museum in Hartford, CT, will reveal fascinating information about Twain and his now-classic novel.
- Alan Kitty, Mark Twain impersonator, will conduct a Question and Answer period.
- A performance of scenes from the book by eight talented New Rochelle middle and high school students from the Big Read Reader’s Theater Troupe.
Free copies of the book and refreshments that Twain would have loved!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of the ALMS PTA, we welcome everyone to Albert Leonard Middle School and wish all parents and students the best in the 2014-2015 school year.
We encourage all parents to become members of the ALMS PTA. Annual dues are $15 for one parent/guardian (or $25 for two) and include membership in district, state and national Parent-Teacher Associations. Your membership gives this advocacy group a stronger voice when lobbying for children and schools. The ALMS PTA portion of your dues helps support our students in many ways, including financing teachers grants, co-curricular clubs, and grade level activities including rec nights, graduation and class trips just to name a few!
Attending the monthly PTA meetings is one of the easiest ways to stay informed about what’s happening at ALMS. The administration is present at every meeting along with an informative guest speaker. We also encourage you to lend a hand in our many activities throughout the year. Parent participation is essential for having successful events such as our Magazine Drive, the Taste of New Rochelle, and the Staff Appreciation breakfast and luncheon.
